The pandemic of COVID-19 has impactedthe world in an unprecedented way, inaugurating, according to some, the so-called “new normal”. In this essay I seek to analyze the relationships between class, race, gender and colonialism based on two events that occurred in this pandemic: a) the murderof George Floyd in US; b) the death of themenino Miguel in Brazil. I seek to draw attention to the fact that despite being a global phenomenon, the pandemic has affected different social groups in different ways, something mediated by the different markers of difference and forged in the colonial experience.
