Through the study of the anecdote transmitted by Francis Lockier about the attribution of Lazarillo de Tormes to Spanish bishops on the way to the Council of Trent, concluding with the hypothesis of its libelist nature, as a consequence of the political and religious tensions of the Reformation during the sessions of the Council of Trent and the interim of Paul IV. From this could be deduced a historical use of the novel within the Church against Spanish Catholic reformers.
