    Hasta hace poco la Unión Europea parecía destinada a ser un centro de poder mundial determinante. Esa percepción está cambiando radicalmente. Por un lado, Estados Unidos ha logrado retomar e incrementar su dominio político, militar y cultural de la Unión Europea.

    Por el otro, la ruptura rusa de su histórica orientación hacia Europa y la potencia de la China emergente, abren un panorama completamente nuevo en el Mundo. La guerra de Ucrania evidencia y sintetiza ambos procesos. Como resultado de ellos, la Unión Europea parece condenada a ser más objeto y comparsa de otras potencias que sujeto y protagonista. ¿Cómo hemos llegado a esta situación?.

    From the Cold War’s false end to the great struggle for Eurasia. Until recently, the European Union seemed fated to be a decisive global power centre. That perception is changing dramatically. On one hand, the United States has succeeded in regaining and increasing its political, military and cultural dominance of the EU. On the other hand, Russia’s break with its historical orientation towards Europe and the power of emerging China opened up a completely new scenario in the world. The war in Ukraine illustrates and synthesises both processes. As a result, the European Union seems destined to be more of an object and partner of other powers than a subject or protagonist. How did we get to this situation?
