La socialdemocracia y el proyecto europeo

    La ponencia se inicia con la exposición de los orígenes del movimiento socialista, analiza la influencia de la revolución soviética en los partidos socialistas europeos, el impacto de las dos guerras mundiales, el replanteamiento de la posición de los socialistas respecto al parlamentarismo y la relación de los trabajadores con los empresarios. Congreso de BadGodesberg del SPD (y el 28 Congreso del PSOE). La crisis económica de comienzos del siglo XXI, efecto de la globalización y de la revolución tecnológica, sorprende a la socialdemocracia europea que no encuentra respuestas válidas a la nueva situación. Ante el declive de la socialdemocracia, y el debilitamiento de las ideas de la democracia, aparece de nuevo el populismo que ofrece todo a unos ciudadanos desconcertados y preocupados por las dificultades. El proyecto de unidad de los países europeos, tradicionalmente enfrentados en guerras continuas, absorberá los esfuerzos de los socialdemócratas, con el clásico problema del predominio de Alemania. Las opciones políticas se desdibujan y se pone en causa para muchos la contraposición derecha-izquierda, de lo que dará cuenta el filósofo Norberto Bobbio en sus libros y en una reveladora carta dirigida al ponente que hará pública durante la intervención. Se expondrá la llamada “tercera vía” como paradigma del abandono del concepto socialdemócrata. La ruptura de la colaboración de los partidos socialdemócratas y los sindicatos, muy debilitados en los últimos años, es una prueba más de la nueva situación. La socialdemocracia no puede seguir actuando bajo la razón trascendente de que la historia juega a su favor. Finalmente se expondrá el papel de la socialdemocracia en el proyecto de unidad europea.

    This lecture opens with an overview of the origins of the socialist movement, analyses the influence of the Soviet revolution on the European socialist parties, the impact of the two world wars, the rethinking of the socialists’ position on parliamentarianism and the relationship between workers and employers. Bad-Godesberg Congress of the SPD (and the 28th Congress of the PSOE).

    The economic crisis at the beginning of the 21st century, the effect of globalisation and the technological revolution, surprised European social democracy, which is unable to find valid answers to the new circumstances. Facing the decline of social democracy and the weakening of the ideas of democracy, populism is making a comeback, offering everything to the citizens who are bewildered and worried by the difficulties.

    The project for the unity of the European countries, traditionally at war with each other, focused efforts of the social democrats, with the classic problem of the predominance of Germany.

    The political options are blurring and the right-left opposition became highlighted, as the philosopher Norberto Bobbio will explain in his books and in a revealing letter to the speaker, which he will make public during his speech. The so-called “third way” will be presented as a paradigm of the abandonment of the social democratic concept.

    The breakdown of the cooperation between the social democratic parties and the trade unions, which has been severely weakened in recent years, is another proof of the new situation.

    Social democracy can no longer act under the transcendental argument that history is playing in its favour. Finally, the role of social democracy in the project of European unity will be discussed
