    The following article offers an attempt to date and study the context in which was written a text that features and presents as contemporary Emir Nūr of Harar (r. c. 1552-1567) and the Christian king Zara Yaqob (r. 1434-1468) – two figures well known in Ethiopian history but who ruled a century apart. In the first part, the study of the text’s geography, of the enemies it points to and of the heroes it portrays allows us to understand that it reflects issues, threats and hopes that were those felt by the people of Harar in the late 19th century. The second part focuses on this historical context to show that the months and years following the Ethiopian conquest of Harar in 1887 were a time of crisis and upheaval.

    L’article qui suit propose de dater et d’étudier le contexte d’écriture d’un texte qui met en scène et présente comme contemporains l’émir Nūr de Harar (r. c. 1552-1567) et le roi chrétien Zara Yaqob (r. 1434-1468) – deux figures bien connues de l’histoire éthiopienne mais ayant régné à un siècle d’intervalle. Dans une première partie, l’étude du cadre spatial de ce texte, des ennemis qu’il désigne et des héros qu’il met en scène permet de comprendre que celui-ci fait écho à des enjeux, des menaces et des espoirs qui sont ceux des gens de Harar à la fin du xixe siècle. La seconde partie s’intéresse à ce contexte historique et montre que les mois et années qui suivent la conquête éthiopienne de Harar en 1887 constituent un moment de crise et de basculement du monde.

    يقترح هذا المقال دراسة وتحديد تاريخ السياق الذي كُتب فيه نصّ يقدم شخصيتين معروفتين في التاريخ الإثيوبي، أمير هراري نور (حكمه حوالي ١٥٥٢-١٥٦٧م) والملك المسيحي زارا يعقوب (حكم من ١٤٣٤-١٤٦٨) كشخصيتين معاصرتين رغم أن قرنًا من الزمن يفصل فترتي حكمهما. ويدرس الجزء الأول من المقال الإطار المكاني لهذا النص ومن يصورهم من أعداء وأبطال، وهو ما يمكّن من إدراك كونِه صدى لرهانات أهل هراري في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وآمالهم والتهديدات التي كانت تُحيق بهم. ويتطرق الجزء الثاني إلى هذا السياق التاريخي مبيّنًا أن الأشهر والسنوات التي تلت الغزو الإثيوبي لهراري في عام ١٨٨٧ تشكل لحظة أزمة و انقلاب لعالم تلك الفترة.
