    Domingo Báñez fue uno de los más destacados tomistas que pertenecieron a la conocida como ‘Escuela de Salamanca’, un foco de auténtica cultura humanista y cristiana que irradió largamente en la civilización occidental, especialmente en España e Iberoamérica. Estudios recientes, a la cabeza del medievalista francés Étienne Gilson, confirman que el papel del dominico salmantino en la historia del tomismo ha tenido un peso más que notable. Frente a esta posición se encuentra el filósofo italiano Cornelio Fabro, quien sostiene, contrariamente a Gilson, que Báñez es responsable de la desviación de las principales tesis de la filosofía tomista del ser. Sea como fuere, su figura ha cobrado gran actualidad y valor en los investigadores de la historia del tomismo.

    Domingo Báñez was one of the most outstanding Thomists who belonged to what is known as the ‘School of Salamanca’, a focus of authentic humanist and Christian culture that radiated throughout Western civilisation, especially in Spain and Iberoamerica. Recent studies, led by the French medievalist Étienne Gilson, confirm that the role of the Salamanca Dominican in the history of Thomism has had a more than notable weight. Opposing this position is the Italian philosopher Cornelio Fabro, who maintains, contrary to Gilson, that Báñez is responsible for the deviation of the main theses of the Thomistic philosophy of being. Be that as it may, his figure has become highly topical and valuable for researchers into the history of Thomism.
