Este artículo pretende analizar los orígenes, símbolos y tradiciones de una sociedad ágrafa, la etnia wayuu de cuyas concepciones mitológicas se desprende su forma de entender la creación del mundo, el origen de las cosas y, sobre todo, la relación que este pueblo tiene con los dioses, así como el papel que adquiere la naturaleza concebida esta como deidad.Abordaremos el papel evangelizador llevado a cabo por los misioneros llegados al lugar, así como su labor de conversión orientada a impedir cualquier manifestación que reivindicara creencias religiosas contrarias a la religión católica.Descubriremos cómo las creencias ancestrales y manifestaciones religiosas de este pueblo basadas en mitos, rituales y cantos confirman sus valores y sus normas religiosas, exposiciones sin duda, que nos permitirán conocer mejor su identidad individual y colectiva

This article aims to analyze the origins, symbols and traditions of an unwritten society, the wayuu ethnic group from whose mythological conceptions emerges their way of understanding the creation of the world, the origin of things and, above all, the relationship that this people has with the gods, as well as the role that nature acquires, conceived as a deity.We will address the evangelizing role carried out by the missionaries who arrived at the place, as well as their conversion work aimed at preventing any demonstration that claimed religious beliefs contrary to the Catholic religion.We will discover how the ancestral beliefs and religious manifestations of this people based on myths, rituals and songs confirm their values and religious norms, exhibitions without a doubt that will allow us to better understand their individual and collective identity
