Resumen de Juan de Megliorini y Lhomme Bouglinval, dos extranjeros en busca del pasado guanche

  A comienzos del siglo xix, el militar italiano Juan de Megliorini reunió en su casa de Santa Cruz de Tenerife una colección de historia natural y antigüedades guanches que alcanzó notoriedad internacional gracias a la exhibición de una momia. En este trabajo reconstruimos su contenido a partir de los testimonios de los visitantes y veremos cómo acabó repartida entre varios compradores que la sacaron de la isla. El principal beneficiario fue Lhomme Bouglinval, un comerciante de orchilla francés que aprovechó su estancia en Tenerife para reunir una colección guanche conservada en el Musée de l´Homme.

  At the beginning of the 19th Century, the Italian military officer Juan de Megliorini gathered in his house at Santa Cruz de Tenerife a collection about natural history and Guanche antiquities, which attained international notoriety owing to the exhibition of a mummy. In this study, we reconstruct its contents from the testimonies of the visitors and we will see how it was distributed amongst several buyers that brought the objects out of the island. The main beneficiary was Lhomme Bouglinval, a french orchilla merchant, which took advantage of his stay in Tenerife in order to gather a Guanche collection preserved in the Musée de l´Homme.
