  • An unusually large medal featuring a portrait of Louis XIV, published here for the first time, adds significantly to our understanding of the work of the seventeenth-century goldsmith and medallist Claude I Ballin. It also demonstrates how images of the Sun King remained in favour, in France and beyond, long after his death
