  • Resumen
    • We take as object one of the works of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola: Tetro (2009). The proposedresearch is based on vision and cognition domains in architecture and aims to develop an interpretationon the perception of architectural space through its cinematic representation, taking as starting point theassumptions of the visual universe, enunciated by James Gibson in The Perception of the Visual World (1950).The approach we will adopt focuses on architecture constructed reality - the Visual World, and their visuality oncinematic images - the Visual Field; or, in what way the retinal images, mimetics of two-dimensional film images, reflect a visual and cognitive sense of the architectural space in its distinctive three-dimensionality.The selected scenes, on the suggested approach, take place in interior spaces. The choice of scenes, shotin black and white film, is determined by one of the main features of the Visual World: the perception of colorconstancy. We pretend to highlight other constituents of the Visual World, namely the surfaces and shapes, allowing the sensations, while vision’s raw material, do not contemplate chromatic specifications, focusing ourattention on the spatial characteristics of surfaces and how the images from sensory stimulation are synthesized. The set of two-dimensional images, where congruence of forms aspects are not preserved - the Visual Field, displayed in a prescribed pace and a steady rhythm, are perceived in a visual impression of movement, throughsuccessive geometrical changes, such as a three-dimensional space, continuous and stable - the Visual World.
