  • Resumen
    • Computer games and interactive narratives depend of cybernetic exchanges between human operators andcomputational systems, in which either part reacts to each other’s actions, allowing narrative and aestheticexperiences to emerge from this feedback loop. Every action unfolds the narrative, makes it progress and eventuallyleads the operator to success or to closure. In a first approach, we may consider that systems respond to theoperator’s meaningful activities, to their ‘doing something’ in the diegesis. We can however witness that the cyberneticrelationship is not always based on constant and continuous responsiveness and that, conversely, the operator’sinaction or unresponsiveness may be equally meaningful, with inaction being strategically used by the operator. Thiswork explores the dialectical balance of action and inaction as an important concept in this context, focusing on theexploration of the operator’s responsiveness and of the system in what is one of the major concerns in the design ofcomputational artifacts such as videogames and interactive narratives.
