    Este texto responde a la invitación de reflexionar sobre el proceso de producción de mi tesis doctoral dedicada al análisis histórico y sociológico del trabajo y la vida de las cigarreras madrileñas entre 1888 y 1927. Mi primer empeño es reflexionar sobre lo que significó la experiencia de la tesis en mi formación investigadora. Con esta intención reviso algunos aspectos del proceso de fabricación de la investigación, los desafíos teóricos y metodológicos que tuve que afrontar para construir y comprender la compleja realidad histórica y sociológica de las cigarreras. Con esta práctica reflexiva he querido compartir preguntas que nos acompañan en esa transición que vivimos como investigadoras que hemos sido dirigidas y, ahora, dirigimos en la encrucijada del sistema académico actual, donde la situación de la formación inicial del personal investigador y el propio trabajo de dirigir y acompañar tesis doctorales ha cambiado notablemente y no siempre para mejor.

    This text is a reaply to the invitation to reflect on the production process of my doctoral thesis dedicated to the historical and sociological analysis of the work and life of cigarette-makers in Madrid between 1888 and 1927. My first endeavour is to reflect on what the experience of the thesis meant in my research training. With this intention, I review some aspects of the research process, the theoretical and methodological challenges I had to face in order to construct and understand the complex historical and sociological reality of the Cigarreras. With this reflective practice, I want to share those questions that have accompanied us on the long road we have travelled as directed researchers and that it is now our turn to lead. Particularly at the crossroads of the current academic system where the situation of the initial training of research staff and the work of supervising doctoral theses has changed considerably. Not always for better.
