This communication studies the relationships between film and video in Harmony Korine’s Gummo (1997). TheKorine’s gesture of re-shooting video pictures asks questions about the narrative and expressive potentiality of videomedium. What possibilities such a practice allows to create ? First it’s a matter of examining the repeated dialecticalbetween sight and sound into interpolated fragments so as to establish a global and coherent video use. Then theformal properties of lo-fi video image, as opposed to argentic ones, are commented with the intention of building,finally, some hypothesises about human perception.
