The nature of the represented Places in the Fictional Film, with which Characters will relate and where they will“live”, as well as the efficiency with which the nature of them is told efficiently, visually and spatially, and also the waytheir actions will take place, all has a critical role in the creation of fictional worlds and in understanding the storylineand the Film’s Plot.Spaces are experienced by individuals due to the characteristics, signs and memories of multiple cultural “layers”,in common between them, leading to places’ recognition and their adequacy to dwelling A complicity is establishedbetween each place and their characters, a personal bond, both functional and emotional. Places are experiencedby individuals as an extension of them, where they can be themselves.This leads us to places of opposite nature; anonymous, selfless and less prone to be appropriated by individuals,given the absence of physical references for fixing, emotional or cultural. This defines them as non-places.Place, characters, ownership, complicity, everything has to be cleverly constructed by syntactic and technical devicesof Film, creating an illusion of reality, towards the narrative of argument and fiction pretended.To establish the different types of places, characters, bonds and how they are represented and told, the movies “Lostin Translation”, by Sofia Coppola (2003) and “Pátio das Cantigas”, of Francisco Ribeiro (1942) will be analyzed.
