Resumen de Uterine Congenital Malformations: Historical Treatise & Illustrations

Rosa Henriques de Gouveia, Ivo Furtado, Lina Carvalho, Carlos Robalo Cordeiro

  • Congenital Uterine Malformations, being among the causes of infertility or miscarriage, are relevant from medico-scientific, social and emotional points of view. Initially thought to be divine punishment or magical influence, they acquired a new dimension with the autopsies and the development of Anatomical Pathology, as shown in historical, rich and accurately illustrated treatises. The Traité d’Anatomie Pathologique du Corps Humain (1829-1835), work of the French renowned anatomist/anatomo-pathologist Jean Cruveilhier (1791-1874), with drawings and paintings from the French illustrator Antoine Chazal (1793-1854) and his collaborator J.B. Martin (1815-1830), is a relevant literary milestone in the study of uterine congenital malformations.
