Cuando un menor de edad se encuentra desamparado, el sistema de protección a la infancia y la adolescencia en España opta por separarlo de su familia. Cuando del pronóstico se derive la posibilidad de retorno del menor con su familia de origen, la reintegración del mismo será el objetivo último. Para ello, el trabajo con la familia biológica y su regulación en las leyes es una condición indispensable des del momento inicial. Estudios previos constatan la ausencia de un auténtico modelo de participación de las familias en España durante el acogimiento y posterior reunificación.En virtud de esta carencia surge la necesidad de enfocar la atención en estrategias que fomenten activamente dicha participación. El voluntary care agreement, regulado en el sistema de protección irlandés, es un mecanismo que favorece la participación de los progenitores y permite crear una relación más colaborativa entre éstos y los profesionales del sistema de protección para alcanzar el retorno del menor con su familia.

When a minor is abandoned, the child protection and adolescent system in Spain separate he/she from their family. When the forecast indicates the possibility of the child returning to their biological family, reunification becomes the ultimate goal. To achieve this, working with the biological family and its regulation in the laws is an essential condition from the first moment. Previous studies have noted the absence of a genuine family participation model in Spain during foster care and reunification. The voluntary care agreement, regulated within the Irish protection system, is a mechanism that promotes parents involvement and allows for a more collaborative relationship between parents and professionals in the protection system to achieve the reunification of the child with their family.
