Resumen de Mythologie grecque et cinéma américain

Jérôme Bloch

  • At the crossroads between a great variety of disciplines — history of film, literature, gender studies, screenplayanalysis... — our work brings to light the strong relationship between greek mythology and american film. From silentto contemporary movies, from independent pictures to blockbusters, our lecture provides an exhaustive look at theNorth American film production.Through a chronological approach, « direct inspirations », such as explicit adaptations (The Trojan Women directedby Michael Cacoyannis, Don Chaffey’s Jason and the Argonauts, Disney’s Hercules, Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy...)or modernizations (Jules Dassin’s Phaedra, Percy Jackson and the Olympian Thief directed by Chris Colombus...)are examined. Those objects are considered from a gender’s point of view, by focusing on the changing role of women in theamerican movies inspired or adapted by greek myths.
