    En este trabajo se analiza la relación entre democratización y narcotráfico en México subrayando la mutua determinación entre ambos elementos. Por un lado, se analizan los efectos de la transición sobre la dinámica del narcotráfico y los grupos criminales; por la otra, se muestra el impacto que el fortalecimiento del narcotráfico tiene sobre el proceso de democratización de México y en el establecimiento de un régimen híbrido singular. La hipótesis es que el fortalecimiento del narcotráfico fue producto de consecuencias no intencionales, lo cual se agravó con la transición a la democracia, y que el narcotráfico ha desempeñado un papel significativo en la consolidación de un régimen híbrido en el que la debilidad del Estado de derecho y el funcionamiento del gobierno resaltan como las principales dimensiones que tendrían que ser atendidas para orientar correctamente el rumbo de la democratización

    This paper analyzes the relationship between democratization and drug trafficking in Mexico, underlining the mutual determination between both elements. On the one hand, it examines the transition’s effects on the dynamics of drug trafficking and criminal groups; on the other hand, it shows the impact that the strengthening of drug trafficking has on Mexico’s democratization process and the establishment of a unique hybrid regime. The hypothesis is that the strengthening of drug trafficking was the product of unintended consequences, which worsened with the transition to democracy, and that drug trafficking has played a significant role in the consolidation of a hybrid regime in which the weakness of the rule of law and the functioning of government stand out as the main dimensions that would have to be addressed in order to correctly orient the course of democratization
