¿Quiénes emigraban en el sureste español?: análisis de una información nominativa de la provincia de Almería (1877-1887)

    En este trabajo se analizan las migraciones internacionales y nacionales del sureste español, durante el último tercio del siglo XIX, a través de una fuente no explotada hasta ahora que hemos llamado justificaciones de las cifras censales de 1887 de la provincia de Almería. La provincia almeriense fue la única que, habiendo tenido un aumento considerable de la población entre 1860 y 1877, presentaba el mayor decrecimiento en el censo de 1887. Desde el Instituto Geográfico y Estadístico, se realizaron las pesquisas necesarias para entender qué había pasado, generando la documentación que aquí trabajamos. Nuestra base de datos, compuesta por 5.479 emigrantes de 17 municipios de la provincia almeriense durante el decenio de 1877-1887, aporta nuevos resultados sobre el perfil de las personas que intervenían en estos flujos.

    In this study we analyse international and national migrations in the southeastern Spanish region during the last third of the nineteenth century, using an unexplored source that we have called “justifications of the 1887 census data for the province of Almería”. The province of Almería was the only one which, despite experiencing a significant increase in population between 1860 and 1877, showed the greatest decrease in the 1887 census. This fact led the Geographical and Statistical Institute to carry out the necessary research to find out what happened, generating the documentation use in this paper. Our database, comprising 5,479 emigrants from 17 municipalities in the province of Almería during the decade from 1877 to 1887, provides new data on the profile of the individuals involved in these migratory flows.
