    La Ley 26659 sobre condiciones para la exploración y explotación de hidrocarburos en la plataforma continental argentina fue sancionada para proteger los recursos de petróleo y gas presentes en dicha zona y reafirmar la soberanía argentina sobre las islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur (San Pedro), Sándwich del Sur y los espacios marítimos circundantes. La disputa de soberanía con el Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña incide directamente en la aplicación e interpretación de esta norma. Mediante este trabajo, se pretende explicar sus aspectos jurídicos de derecho constitucional, administrativo, penal, civil, ambiental e internacional.

    Law 26659, regarding conditions for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Argentine continental shelf, was enacted to protect the oil and gas resources in this zone and reassert the Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgias (San Pedro), and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas. The struggle for sovereignty with the United Kingdom of Great Britain has a direct impact on the implementation and interpretation of this piece of legislation. This article aims to explain the legal aspects from the point of view of constitutional, administrative, criminal, civil, environmental, and international law.
