    En el presente artículo, investigaremos la relación que las adaptaciones audiovisuales de la novela Drácula de Bram Stoker han mantenido con las cuestiones de género. Tomando como ejemplo la transformación del profesor Abraham Van Helsing, en la hermana Agatha Van Helsing en la reciente producción en serie para BBC/ Netflix, propondremos una revisión del papel que las construcciones de género han tenido en la construcción de la mitología contemporánea del vampiro.

    Para contextualizarla, revisaremos el papel y reinterpretación que los roles femeninos y las cuestiones de género originadas en la novela de Stoker han tenido en las adaptaciones cinematográficas más relevantes. Por medio de ellas, trataremos de observar si estas revisiones y cambios muestran realmente posiciones críticas al hilo de los cambios políticos y sociales del momento o, al contrario, siguen sosteniendo los imaginarios misóginos y machistas que el terror a lo femenino mostraba ya la novela en origen.

    In this article, we will investigate the relationship that the audiovisual adaptations of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula have maintained with gender issues. Taking account as case of study the transformation of Professor Abraham Van Helsing into Sister Agatha Van Helsing in the recent serial production for BBC/Netflix, we will propose a review of the role that gender constructions have had in the construction of contemporary vampire mythology.

    To contextualize it, we will review the role and reinterpretation that female roles and gender issues originating in Stoker's novel have had in the most relevant film adaptations. Through them, we will try to observe if these revisions and changes really show critical positions reflecting political and social changes of the moment or, on the contrary, they continue to support the misogynistic and sexist imaginaries that the terror of “the feminine” of the original text of Stoker.
