Blogs are a textual type generated within the knowledge and information society framework. In the field of economics and finance, blog authors aim not only to disseminate knowledge, but also to offer their own opinion on the issues dealt with. To this end, authors select both the lexicon and the linguistic resources they need, including metaphors. Based on the hypothesis that the more technical or scientific a text is in an economics and financial blog, the fewer non-lexicalised metaphors it needs, the aim of this paper is to determine the factors involved in their use in economics and financial blogs in Spanish. For this purpose, a corpus of 60 texts has been selected from two blogs, well differentiated by their characteristics, at different time periods, from 2017 to 2020. The metaphors were extracted, then classified and explained, taking into account their origin (lexicalised or individually created metaphors) and in what part of the text they were used (title, entry or comments). The results of this study confirm the initial hypothesis. They also confirm that the factors favouring the use of metaphor in these texts are, on the one hand, the need to clarify the contents conveyed, mostly with lexicalised metaphors; on the other hand, the intention to modulate the opinion expressed in their texts, usually with individually created metaphors.
