    Los dibujos que realizó Ignacio Tirsch (1733-1781), forman parte del trabajo misional jesuita, en el septentrión novohispano. Hoy en día podemos encontrar algunos de estos dibujos ilustrando libros especializados o bien en campañas publicitarias sobre Baja California. Sin embargo, siguen abiertas algunas interrogantes sobre su contexto de producción de estos dibujos, así como sus contribuciones a la historia natural sobre la antigua california escritas en el exilio jesuita. En este artículo me propongo analizar cómo y para qué fueron elaborados estos dibujos; y tratar de plantear algunos escenarios posibles al momento de su elaboración. Además de sus experiencias y observaciones de campo, existe la posibilidad de que Ignacio Tirsch contará con algunas notas realizadas en los alrededores de las misiones o manuscritos de otros jesuitas sobre california, además del apoyo de otro dibujante y del uso del método de la ekphrasis.

    The drawings made by Ignacio Tirsch (1733-1781) are part of the Jesuit missionary work in the northern New Spain. Today we can find some of these drawings illustrating specialized books or advertising campaigns on Baja California. However, some questions remain open about their production context of these drawings, as well as their contributions to the natural history of ancient California written in the Jesuit exile. In this article I propose to analyze how and for what made these drawings were made; and propose some possible scenarios at the time of its elaboration. In addition to his experiences and field observations, there is a possibility that Ignacio Tirsch will have some notes made around the missions or manuscripts of other Jesuits about California, in addition to the support of another artist and the use of the method of ekphrasis.
