  En este artículo de investigación ofrecemos una visión general del clero secular español desde el reinado de Carlos III (1759-1788) hasta el Sexenio Democrático (1868-1874). Se trata de una aproximación histórica a una sociología del bajo clero, el más numeroso, trabajador y el que tenía mayor contacto con los fieles: número de clérigos, extracción social, reclutamiento del clero, estudios en el seminario y formación permanente, situación económica, mentalidades, atención pastoral a los fieles, nivel moral y de ejemplaridad. Terminamos este trabajo con una amplia y cuidada revisión bibliográfica.

  In this research article we offer an overview of the Spanish secular clergy from the reign of Charles III (1759-1788) to the Democratic Sexennium (1868-1874). It is a historical approach to a sociology of the lower clergy, the most numerous, hard-working and the one that had the greatest contact with the faithful: number of clerics, social extraction, recruitment of the clergy, studies in the seminary and permanent formation, economic situation, mentalities, pastoral care for the faithful, moral level and exemplarity. We finish this work with an extensive and careful bibliographic review.
