  Una lesión medular (LM) puede originarse por diversas causas, todas implicando un daño a la médula espinal y, por ende, a sus funciones. Este escenario puede impactar la salud mental del paciente en múltiples aspectos, incluyendo su capacidad de llevar a cabo actividades cotidianas y su calidad de vida, aspectos estrechamente vinculados con la salud mental. En este contexto, la fisioterapia busca restablecer cierto nivel de funcionamiento acorde a las necesidades identificadas, abordando aspectos como la función cardiorrespiratoria y funcional. Acompañada de terapia psicológica y otras intervenciones como terapia ocupacional y orientación sexual, la fisioterapia puede contribuir a restablecer un equilibrio y funcionalidad que favorezcan la preservación o recuperación de la salud mental en estos individuos.

  A spinal cord injury (SCI) can result from various causes, all of which involve damage to the spinal cord and, consequently, its functions. This scenario can impact the patient’s mental health in multiple ways, including their ability to conduct daily activities and their quality of life, aspects intricately linked to mental health. In this context, physiotherapy aims to restore a certain level of functioning according to identified needs, addressing aspects such as cardiorespiratory and functional function. Accompanied by psychological therapy and other interventions such as occupational therapy and sexual orientation guidance, physiotherapy can contribute to restoring a balance and functionality that promote the preservation or recovery of mental health in these individuals.
