La Compañía de Jesús alentó, desde el primer cuarto del s. XVIII, la devoción a la Madre Santísima de la Luz con afán de contraponerla a aquellas otras Luces que intentaba propagar la nueva filosofía. Su representación iconográfica fue considerada una prueba de laxismo y, tras la expulsión, reprimido su culto y recogidos los escritos que la promovían, con la colaboración de los obispos más señaladamente antijesuitas.

The Society of Jesus encouraged, from the first quarter of the 18fh Century, devotion to the Holy Mother of Light, with the aim of setting her up against of her Lights who tried to propagate the new philosophy. Her iconographic representation was considered as a proof of laxity and, after the expulsion, her worship was repressed and documents promoting her, were confiscated, with the collaboration of the more especially anti-Jesuit Bishops.
