Resumen de Un dittico del Maestro di Verucchio ricostruito

Mauro Minardi

  • A little-known privately-owned painting of the "Nativity and three Saints" forms the left panel of a diptych by the Master of Verucchio, originally joined by a "Crucifixion" in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. The article first examines the work's material characteristics and the reasons for connecting the two panels, which are also painted on their backs. This is followed by a study of the iconography and style of this assembled work, with a proposed dating shortly after 1330. The observations on the painter's career do not rule out the possibility -as discussed by a majority of scholars- that the master can be identified as Francesco da Rimini.
