    La glándula tiroides, ubicada en la cara anterior del cuello, se encarga de controlar la velocidad de las funciones químicas del organismo. La función tiroidea está controlada por la hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH o tirotropina), una hormona glicoproteína secretada por el lóbulo anterior de la hipófisis (adenohipófisis).

    La regulación de la función tiroidea se debe a la hormona liberadora de la tirotropina (TRH), un tripéptido segregado en el hipotálamo que estimula la secreción de hormona tirotropina (TSH). Las principales hormonas tiroideas secretadas por la tiroides son la tiroxina (T4) y la triyodotironina (T3).

    Las anomalías de la función de la glándula tiroidea representan algunos de los trastornos endocrinos más frecuentes como: Hipotiroidismo; Hipertiroidismo.

    The thyroid gland, located in the anterior aspect of the neck, is responsible for controlling the rate of chemical functions in the body. Thyroid function is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH or thyrotropin), a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland (adenohypophysis).

    Regulation of thyroid function is due to thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), a tripeptide secreted in the hypothalamus that stimulates the secretion of thyrotropin hormone (TSH). The main thyroid hormones secreted by the thyroids are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

    Abnormalities of thyroid gland function represent some of the most frequent endocrine disorders such as: Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Goiter, Nodules, Thyroiditis.
