    Tras la guerra de 1879 que enfrentó a Chile con Perú y Bolivia, se inició un complejo proceso de negociaciones que llevaron a establecer nuevos límites fronterizos y a tratados que sintetizaban los pasos a seguir en años siguientes. Con el paso de los años, algunos de los principios establecidos, por tardanza o incumplimiento, llevaron a estos países a exponer su situación en la recientemente creada Sociedad de las Naciones (1919). En este estudio analizamos las posiciones adoptadas por Chile, considerando los costos y beneficios de ser partícipe de la organización internacional en vista de sus intereses y su relación con el “vecindario”.

    After the 1879 war that pitted Chile against Peru and Bolivia, a complex process of negotiations began that led to the establishment of new border limits and treaties that summarised the steps to be taken in the following years. Over the years, some of the principles established, due to delay or non-compliance, led these countries to expose their situation in the recently created League of Nations (1919). In this study we analyse the positions adopted by Chile, considering the costs and benefits of participating in the international organisation in view of its interests and its relationship with its ‘neighbourhood’.
