    La biolingüística, campo de estudios interdisciplinar centrado en los fundamentos biológicos del lenguaje, es indisociable de las figuras de Chomsky, Lenneberg y Piattelli-Palmarini, quienes son considerados como las figuras que sentaron sus bases epistemológicas, teóricas y metodológicas. No obstante, la mención a Handbook of Biolinguistics (1962[1950]), obra que nos ocupa, se reduce a la simple coincidencia terminológica al tratarse de un trabajo previo a la “revolución cognitiva”. En esta investigación partimos de la hipótesis, de que el progreso científico es un entramado de relaciones de continuidad y discontinuidad, lo que se opone a la concepción comúnmente aceptada de dotar de autoría y coordenadas espacio-temporales concretas al surgimiento de la biolingüística. Nuestro objetivo, por tanto, es evaluar la pertinencia de la inclusión de esta obra dentro de la historia de biolingüística a través de un estudio de sus postulados lingüísticos y biolingüísticos, y de las fuentes utilizadas por los autores. Metodológicamente, nos basamos en la perspectiva externalista de la historiografía de la lingüística y la teoría del canon para categorizar las relaciones del texto con sus fuentes y con su contexto científico y cultural y evaluar su inclusión en la serie de la constitución de la biolingüística.

    Biolinguistics, an interdisciplinary field of study centered on the biological foundations of language, is inseparable from the figures of Chomsky, Lenneberg, and Piattelli-Palmarini, who are considered to be the authors who laid its epistemological, theoretical, and methodological foundations. However, the mention of Handbook of Biolinguistics (1962 [1950]) is reduced to a simple terminological coincidence as it is a work prior to the “cognitive revolution”. In this research we start from the hypothesis that scientific progress is a web of relationships of continuity and discontinuity, which is opposed to the commonly accepted conception of giving authorship and specific spatio-temporal coordinates to the emergence of biolinguistics. Our aim, therefore, is to assess the relevance of the inclusion of this work within the history of biolinguistics through a study of its linguistic and biolinguistic postulates, and of the sources used by the authors. Methodologically, we rely on the externalist perspective of the historiography of linguistics and the theory of the canon to categorise the relations of the text with its sources and with its scientific and cultural context and to evaluate its inclusion in the series of the constitution of biolinguistics.
