  • Resumen
    • Dispersed urban growth in the Toluca Metropolitan Area (ZMT) has accelerated in recent decades, and ecological ordering and urban planning have been exceeded. At the same time, there are no studies that guide decision-making for the correct exploitation and use of the territory. The objective of this study was to generate a territorial aptitude evaluation model to guide the direction of urban growth, through an analysis of the carrying capacity of the territory for a sustainable urban development of the ZMT. Impact urban expansion zones were identified in areas with ecological and environmental value, and socio-natural risk areas, with respect to current urban growth. Alternatives are proposed to reorient the direction and form of urban growth with criteria for the preservation of productive and environmental areas.
