Resumen de Variabilidad pluviométrica y saber andino en la Cordillera del Vilcanota Cusco-Perú

  A partir del año 2010 tuvimos la suerte de contactar con pobladores alpaqueros de alta montaña para involucrarlos en una red de observaciones pluviométricas al pie de los glaciares de la Cordillera del Vilcanota (Cusco, Perú). El objetivo del estudio fue correlacionar el registro instrumentado de la variabilidad pluviométrica y el conocimiento que los pobladores altoandinos tienen sobre las variaciones climáticas de su entorno. Para recolectar la información pluviométrica se instalaron cinco puntos de registro en áreas próximas a los glaciares de la cadena del Vilcanota. La tarea de registrar la información recayó en los mismos alpaqueros, quienes hicieron el trabajo durante los años 2011 – 2017. Para recabar los conocimientos de los pobladores altoandinos sobre la variabilidad climática, se aplicaron entrevistas no estructuradas.

  El hallazgo principal fue que las mediciones pluviométricas, que demuestran variaciones en regularidad, intensidad, estacionalidad y tipo, están perfectamente relacionadas a las interpretaciones que los pobladores alpaqueros tienen sobre el clima de su entorno. Es decir, tanto las mediciones instrumentadas como el conocimiento local han identificado la variabilidad de las precipitaciones en los glaciares de la Cordillera del Vilcanota.

  Starting in 2010, we were lucky enough to contact high mountain alpaca residents to involve them in a network of rainfall observations at the foot of the glaciers of the Cordillera del Vilcanota (Cusco, Peru). The objective of the study was to correlate the instrumented record of rainfall variability and the knowledge that the high Andean inhabitants have about the climatic variations of their environment. To collect rainfall information, five recording points were installed in areas close to the glaciers of the Vilcanota chain. The task of recording the information fell on the alpaqueros themselves, who did the work during the years 2011 - 2017. To gather the knowledge of the high Andean inhabitants about climate variability, unstructured interviews were applied.

  The main finding was that the rainfall measurements, which show variations in regularity, intensity, seasonality and type, are perfectly related to the interpretations that the alpaca settlers have about the climate of their surroundings. In other words, both instrumented measurements and local knowledge have identified the variability of rainfall in the glaciers of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
