    Este documento aborda la implementación de un sistema de indicadores con el propósito de gestionar de manera sostenible la actividad económica en el sector hotelero del cantón Manta, en la provincia de Manabí. El estudio reconoce la necesidad de equilibrar el crecimiento económico derivado del turismo con la conservación del entorno y el bienestar de la comunidad local. La metodología se basa, en primera instancia, en una revisión a la literatura existente sobre el tema de estudio. por otro lado, se realiza una recopilación de datos económicos, ambientales y sociales relevantes para el sector hotelero de Manta. Los indicadores seleccionados abarcan diversas áreas clave, incluyendo ingresos generados por el turismo, ocupación hotelera, eficiencia energética, gestión de residuos, empleo local y contribuciones a la comunidad. Estos indicadores proporcionan una visión holística de la sostenibilidad, permitiendo una evaluación completa de los impactos económicos y ambientales de la industria hotelera. Los resultados del estudio resaltan la importancia de la implementación de prácticas sostenibles en el sector hotelero para lograr un desarrollo equitativo y responsable. Los indicadores revelan que, si bien el turismo ha impulsado el crecimiento económico, también ha planteado desafíos en términos de uso de recursos y gestión de residuos.

    This document addresses the implementation of a system of indicators with the purpose of sustainably managing economic activity in the hotel sector of the Manta canton, in the province of Manabí. The study recognizes the need to balance the economic growth derived from tourism with the conservation of the environment and the well-being of the local community. The methodology is based, in the first instance, on a review of the existing literature on the subject of study. On the other hand, a compilation of economic, environmental and social data relevant to the Manta hotel sector is carried out. The selected indicators cover several key areas, including income generated by tourism, hotel occupancy, energy efficiency, waste management, local employment and contributions to the community. These indicators provide a holistic view of sustainability, allowing a full assessment of the economic and environmental impacts of the hotel industry. The results of the study highlight the importance of implementing sustainable practices in the hotel sector to achieve equitable and responsible development. The indicators reveal that while tourism has boosted economic growth, it has also posed challenges in terms of resource use and waste management.
