  The text seeks to understand how it happened and it happens the process of vertical growth of some coastal Brazilian cities. It presents some theoretical considerations on the vertical and coastal growth ,analyzing the relationship that exist between the vertical home and the proximity of the sea. It describes, in a more detailed way, the development of the coastal vertical growth in the city of Vitória (ES).

  Este texto visa entender como ocorreu e ocorre o processo de verticalização de algumas cidades brasileiras situadas no litoral. Apresenta algumas considerações teóricas sobre verticalização e litoral, analisando a relação que existe entre a moradia vertical e a proximidade do mar. Descreve, de forma mais detalhada, o desenvolvimento da verticalização litorânea na cidade de Vitória (ES).
