El comportamiento electoral de los votantes del Partido Nacionalista Vasco. Evolución de los componentes de voto en el periodo 1994-2020

     El Partido Nacionalista Vasco / Eusko Alderdi Jeltzalea (EAJ-PNV) se ha convertido en uno de los principales referentes de la política autonómica a lo largo de los últimos cuarenta años. Este trabajo analiza los factores que han influido en el comportamiento electoral de sus votantes en las elecciones autonómicas vascas, desde 1994 hasta las de 2020. Siguiendo la estela de la mayoría de estudios sobre comportamiento electoral vasco, se tomarán como referencia las dimensiones nacionalista e ideológica, pero ampliando el foco más allá de ellas. En este sentido, se plantean tres objetivos específicos: a) estudiar la ubicación en ambas dimensiones del PNV, en función de la autoubicación de sus votantes; b) analizar la distancia percibida de su electorado hacia el propio partido en ambos ejes utilizando modelos espaciales; y c) realizar un análisis de los componentes de voto mediante regresiones logísticas, poniendo la atención en otro tipo de variables. En lo referente al tercer y principal apartado, los resultados mostrarán la importancia de los factores relacionados con estos dos ejes, frente a otro tipo de variables sociodemográficas o temáticas. Sin embargo, elementos de carácter más afectivo sobre los que hasta ahora no se había puesto especial atención, como los liderazgos o la identificación partidista, se mostrarán altamente significativos a la hora de definir el comportamiento electoral de sus votantes.

    The Basque Nationalist Party (EAJ-PNV) has become one of the main points of reference in regional politics over the last forty years. This paper analyses the factors that have influenced the electoral behaviour of its voters in Basque regional elections, from 1994 to elections in 2020. Following in the footsteps of most studies on Basque electoral behaviour, the nationalist and ideological dimensions will be taken as a reference, but extending the focus beyond them. In this sense, three specific objectives are set out: a) to study the PNV’s location in both dimensions, according to the self-location of its voters; b) to analyse the perceived distance of its electorate towards the party itself on both axes using spatial models; and c) to carry out an analysis of the voting components by means of logistic regressions, paying attention to other types of variables. With regard to the third and main section, the results will show the importance of factors related to these two axes, as opposed to other types of socio-demographic or thematic variables. However, elements of a more affective nature, which until now have not received special attention, such as leadership or party identification, will prove to be highly significant in defining the electoral behaviour of voters.
