    Tiempo y clima son términos meteorológicos que se utilizan en el idioma español indistintamente para comunicar el estado presente o inmediato de la atmósfera dentro del rango de horas a días. Mientras que tiempo (meteorológico) se refiere al estado actual de la atmósfera, clima se refiere a las variaciones en períodos de 30 años o más. Sin embargo, el uso indiscriminado de dichos términos genera confusión al suponer que los eventos atmosféricos de corta duración son climáticos. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal esclarecer la diferencia entre tiempo y clima, así como mostrar un panorama general de las variaciones atmosféricas que ocurren dentro de estas escalas de tiempo. Para este fin se presentan ejemplos propios de cada una de estas variaciones, sus influencias, así como también las causas que los producen. Por último, se presentan algunos ejemplos de casos en México.

    Weather and climate are meteorological terms that in the Spanish language are used indistinctly to provide information about the present state of the atmosphere within the range of hours to days. Weather refers to the current state of the atmosphere, while climate refers to long-term variations in the state of the atmosphere on timescales of at least 30 years. However, the arbitrary use of both terms is misleading, assuming that weather events are climatic in nature. The main objective of this work is to clarify the difference between weather and climate, as well as to show a broad overview of the atmospheric variations that occur on different time scales. To achieve this goal, examples for each time scale as well as their influences and their origin are presented. Finally, specific examples for Mexico are shown.
