Resumen de Sobre la urgencia de una bioética global

  La bioética global fue concebida en la década de 1970 por Van R. Potter como un campo interdisciplinario que vincula las ciencias biológicas, las ciencias sociales y las humanidades. Su objetivo fue extender la reflexión ética para que abarcara las relaciones que los seres humanos establecemos con el resto de los sistemas vivientes. A más de 40 años de su aparición, diversos autores consideran que es indispensable retomar la bioética global para hacer frente a la crisis ecológica-social contemporánea, vinculándola a los discursos de sustentabilidad y Derechos Humanos; este ensayo se suma a las voces de esos autores. Para ello, se presenta una breve historia de la bioética, se discuten propuestas de definición del concepto y se exponen las opiniones de autores contemporáneos que abogan por un resurgimiento de la visión potteriana. Como conclusión, se incluyen algunas reflexiones en torno a la importancia de vincular la bioética con la educación.  >> Leer más

  Global bioethics was conceived in the 1970s by Van R. Potter as an interdisciplinary field linking biological sciences, social sciences and humanities. Its objective was to extend the ethical reflection to comprehend the relationships that human beings establish with the rest of the living systems. More than 40 years after its appearance, several authors consider that it is indispensable to rescue global bioethics as an alternative to face the contemporary ecological-social crisis, linking it to the discourses of sustainability and human rights; this essay adds to the voices of these authors. Therefore, it presents a brief history of bioethics, followed by a discussion concerning its conceptual definition, and the opinion of contemporary authors who support the resurgence of the potterian vision of bioethics. In conclusion, we present some reflections on the importance of linking bioethics with education.
