Resumen de Mito y técnica en la filosofía de Ernst Cassirer

  En el presente trabajo estudiaremos la manera en que se relacionan el mito y la téc­nica en la filosofía de Ernst Cassirer. Tomando como punto de partida el segundo volumen de su Filosofía de las formas simbólicas, identificaremos allí ciertas tesis sobre la ruptura que la técnica introduce en el mundo mágico-mítico. A continuación, estudiaremos cómo Cassirer ela­bora esas tesis en el ensayo “Forma y técnica”, para enfatizar que la técnica le ofrece al hombre una vía de emancipación de la inmediatez y la inmanencia míticas. Sin embargo, veremos que ya ese ensayo ofrece elementos para defender la posición contraria: a saber, que la técnica tiende hacia un regreso de lo mítico. Veremos que es esta posición la que Cassirer adopta en su última obra, El mito del Estado, donde denuncia un uso mítico de la técnica por parte de los totalitarismos del siglo XX. Aunque Cassirer ex­tiende el problema de la latencia mítica a todos los espacios de la cultura, hace de la técnica el ejemplo eminente y más elocuente.

  In this article we will analyze the relationship between myth and technology in the philosophy of Ernst Cassirer. Taking as our point of departure the second volume of Cassirer’s Philosophy of Symbolic Forms, we will identify certain theses on the rupture introduced by technology in the world of magic and myth. Next, we will observe how Cassirer develops those theses in his essay “Form and Technology”, in order to stress the fact that technol­ogy offers man a path of emancipation from mythical immediacy and immanence. However, we will also see that the essay already offers elements that make possible to maintain the contrary position, namely, that technology tends towards a return of myth. We will see that this is the position taken by Cassirer in his last work, The Myth of the State, where he denounces the mythical use of technology by the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. Although Cassirer extends the problem of the latency of myth unto every realm of culture, he uses technology as the primary and most eloquent example.
