    El objetivo de este trabajo es rastrear cómo el tabaco fue incorporado y utilizado de manera recreativa/secular por las diversas sociedades que conformaban el área Panaraucana, y cuáles fueron los factores históricos que explican la importancia relativa del tabaco en la vida cotidiana de las sociedades indígenas regionales. Por otro lado, y vinculado con lo anterior, intentaremos establecer cuáles fueron sus fuentes de aprovisionamiento, y qué lugar ocupaba el tabaco en las diversas formas de intercambio con los hispano-criollos.

    The aim of this work is to trace how tobacco was incorporated and used in a recreational/secular manner by the various societies that made up the Panaraucana area, and which were the historical factors that explain the relative importance of tobacco in everyday life of regional indigenous societies. On the other hand, and related to the above, we will try to establish what their sources of supply were, and what place tobacco occupied in the various forms of exchange with the Hispanic-Creoles.
