    Hasta hace unos años, la cirugía plástica reconstructiva en niños y niñas con labio y/o paladar hendido, habían sido ignorados o subestimados por los especialistas de la salud, que sólo pensaban en realizar la cirugía reconstructiva para concluir con su tratamiento, obviando el hecho de que, aunque la cirugía fuese “perfecta”, desde el punto de vista psicológico, el niño y su familia son sometidos a un serio estrés que puede comprometer su bienestar futuro. En atención, a esta premisa el presente artículo tuvo como objetivo caracterizar la influencia de la cirugía plástica reconstructiva en el comportamiento de niños y niñas con labio y/o paladar hendido.  La metodología fue de tipo descriptiva y de campo, para ello se utilizó una lista de cotejo que a través de la técnica de la encuesta se obtuvieron los datos del estudio. El análisis de la información o datos se realizó a través del Paquete Estadístico SPSS, versión 23.   La población la constituyeron 120 pacientes operados en el Hospital León Becerra, en la ciudad de Guayaquil, Ecuador.  En la que se pudo apreciar, en el 45% de los pacientes, poseían una conducta que difiere de la de un niño propio de su edad, concluyendo que posterior a su operación han mejorado pasando de ser un niño introvertido y de autoestima bajo con una tendencia a ser extrovertidos.

    Until a few years ago, reconstructive plastic surgery in children with cleft lip and / or palate had been ignored or underestimated by health specialists, who only thought of performing reconstructive surgery to conclude their treatment, obviating the fact that, although the surgery was "perfect", from the psychological point of view, the child and his family are subjected to a serious stress that may compromise their future well-being. In attention to this premise, this article aimed to characterize the influence of reconstructive plastic surgery on the behavior of children with cleft lip and / or palate. The methodology was of a descriptive and field type, for this a checklist was used that, through the technique of the survey, the study data were obtained.

    The analysis of the information or data was carried out through the SPSS Statistical Package, version 23. The population consisted of 120 patients operated at the Leon Becerra Hospital, in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. In which it was possible to appreciate, in 45% of the patients, they had a behavior that differs from that of a child of their age, concluding that after their operation they have improved from being an introverted child and of low self-esteem with a tendency to be extroverted
