We will focus our attention on the so- called “infrastructure of state punishment” as regards the functioning of prisons in General Acha, the first capital of the province and, afterwards, the prison inaugurated in Santa Rosa in 1904. We will analyse the early connection between the police force and the prison system, the existing regulations in the 19th Century, which were influenced by the positivist ideal, and the first national regulations destined to the creation and the operation of the national prison system. It is our intention to reconstruct some aspects referred to the organization of the first two prisons in the territory with the aim of stimulating future research and interpretations as regards the prison issue or the prison system in La Pampa province
