    En la primera clase que tuve en la carrera de Filosofía, el profesor nos recibió con una reflexión un tanto provocadora. Sostenía que si lo que realmente nos interesaba estudiar era la filosofía, entonces estábamos en el lugar equivocado. Argumentaba que aquello que nosotros estudiaríamos en las aulas serían, a lo sumo, rudimentos de historia de la filosofía; que con suerte aprenderíamos a leer y que, si por fortuna teníamos algún don para la escritura, deberíamos estar dispuestos a sacrificarlo en aras de aprobar la tesis indispensable para obtener el título de licenciado.

    In the first class I had in my Philosophy degree, the professor welcomed us with a somewhat provocative reflection. He maintained that if what we were really interested in studying was philosophy, then we were in the wrong place. He argued that what we would study in the classrooms would be, at most, rudiments of the history of philosophy; that with luck we would learn to read and that, if fortunately we had some gift for writing, we should be willing to sacrifice it in order to pass the thesis essential to obtain a bachelor's degree.
