Resumen de François Gérard’s portraits of Alexandrine Émilie Brongniart

Kathryn Calley Galitz

  • François Gérard's career as a portrait was launched with the acclaim that greeted his portrait of Alexandrine Émilie Brongniart at the Salon in 1795. Long believed lost, two versions of the portrait recently came to light: a bust-length portrait now in Yale University Art Gallery and a three-quarter version in a private collection, published here for the first time and here identified as the painting shown at the Salon
