It has long been known that Vermeer's 'Young woman reading a letter at an open window' in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden, originally included a painting of Cupid on the wall. New technical investigation has revealed that it was not overpainted by Vermeer, as was assumed, but later. Since it has survived in good condition it is being uncovered, trandforming the painting's appearance
