Although Boudin is closely associated with scenes of social life on the beaches in Normandy, he exhibited such works at the Salon for only a brief period, from 1864 to 1869. Lack of documentation has made the identification of some of these major works fraught with difficulty, but newly discovered documents and a close study of Boudin's drawings allow many errors to be corrected
