“Nascido de Mulher” (Gl 4,4)

    The biblical text of Gal 4:4 is the only Pauline text in which we find a mention of Paul to the mother of the Son of God, in the context of the literary unity of the pericope Gal 4:1-7, where the Apostle makes his biblical demonstration of our divine sonship by faith in Christ Jesus, marking the “heart” of this little literary unit. Paul touches on the theme of the incarnation of Christ and our filial adoption. By affirming that Christ “was born of woman” Paul means that Christ is fully man. Moreover, when he states that he was “born under the law” he means that Christ belonged to the Jewish people, with all its Jewish tradition in religious, political, social and cultural terms. Although it is a difficult passage, it is worth analyzing some details of this text. Moreover, being the only Pauline mention of the mother of the Son of God, this text has aroused much discussion, since the Pauline formulation is not as clear as in the Gospels, where we find this woman's name: Mary, and that she was virgin. Finally, a study of the Mother of the Son of God in the New Testament, to be complete, cannot ignore the Pauline text of Gal 4:4.

    O texto bíblico de Gl 4,4 é o único texto paulino no qual encontramos uma menção de Paulo à mãe do Filho de Deus, no contexto da unidade literária da perícope Gl 4,1-7, onde o Apóstolo faz sua demonstração bíblica da nossa filiação divina pela fé em Cristo Jesus, demarcando o “coração” desta pequena unidade literária. Paulo toca na temática da encarnação de Cristo e de nossa adoção filial. Ao afirmar que Cristo “nasceu de mulher” Paulo quer dizer que Cristo é plenamente homem. Mais ainda, quando afirma que “nasceu sob a lei”, ele quer dizer que Cristo pertencia ao povo judeu, com toda a sua tradição judaica em termos religiosos, políticos, sociais e culturais. Embora seja uma passagem difícil, vale a pena analisar alguns detalhes deste texto. Ademais, sendo a única menção paulina sobre a mãe do Filho de Deus, este texto tem suscitado muitas discussões, visto que a formulação paulina não é tão clara como nos Evangelhos, onde encontramos o nome desta mulher: Maria, e que ela era virgem. Enfim, um estudo sobre a Mãe do Filho de Deus no Novo Testamento, para ser completo, não pode ignorar o texto paulino de Gl 4,4.
