  • This article will analyse the protection of individual freedom of conscience and religion by the UN Human Rights Committee through the individual communications procedure. The aim is to draw attention to the divergences and similarities between the Committee’s work and the European Court of Human Rights’ jurisprudence by examining two main topics: conscientious objection – from military service to the recent ‘complicity claims’ – and the wearing of religious garments in public spaces
