Este artículo ofrece un estudio sobre los proyectos de reconstrucción y rehabilitación que se sucedieron en la parroquia de Santa María de Guía durante los siglos xvii y xviii, vinculándolos entre sí y desvelando la continuidad que guardan sus propuestas arquitectónicas. Para ello resulta imprescindible releer la documentación generada por la mayordomía del templo, al igual que analizar dos hechos clave: la identificación de los vecinos con su iglesia y el influjo que tuvieron en dichas acciones los mandatos de párrocos, obispos y visitadores diocesanos. Otros aspectos a abordar son los problemas que originaron propuestas tan diversas en 1602, 1619, 1655 y 1777, especialmente por el acopio de los materiales de construcción, las variaciones que algunos proyectos aportaron respecto al edificio previo, la participación de maestros con diverso reconocimiento en su desarrollo y, sobre todo, el vínculo que la fábrica subsistente tuvo con el contexto que le dio sentido en el norte de Gran Canaria.

This paper provides a study of the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects that were developed in the Parish of Santa Maria de Guía during the 17th and 18th centuries, linking them together and insisting on the continuity of their architectural proposals. For this, it is essential to reread the documentation generated by the parish, as well as to analyze two main facts: the identification of the population with their church and the influence that the orders of parish priests, bishops and diocesan visitors had on these actions. Other aspects to study are the problems that generated diverse proposals in 1602, 1619, 1655 and 1777, especially for the collection of construction materials, the variations offered by some projects with respect to the previous building, the participation of masons with diverse recognition in its development and, above all, the link that the subsisting church had with the context that gave it meaning in the north of Gran Canaria.
