Resumen de A neuro-musculoskeletal simulations framework for the study ofmuscle synergies

Stefano Piazza, José Luis Pons Rovira

  • The human body is a complex system with redundant number of degrees of freedom (DOFs). This redundancy represents an unconstrained problem diffcult to control. Recent theories on neuromuscular control propose that the nervous system solves the control issue through the recruitment of motor modules or functional muscle synergies, that map motor intention to action. Unfortunately, technological limitations and the complexity of the experimentation procedure make the validation of this theory more diffcult. Novel techniques of neuro-musculoskeletal simulation can be exploited to overcome these limitations. A novel approach is proposed, which promises to reduce the complexity of the experimental protocol while providing a functional validation of the muscle synergies.
