Un testimonio concluyente sobre la autoría de la iglesia de San Vicente Mártir de Tocina. La obra de Pedro Romero (1633-1711) y su estirpe en el contexto barroco sevillano.

    Hasta ahora, la escasez de noticias sobre el proyecto y construcción de la iglesia parroquial de san Vicente Mártir de Tocina no había posibilitado desvelar la autoría de este magnífico edificio, aunque diversos rasgos estilísticos han permitido atribuirla a Diego Antonio Díaz y/o a la familia Romero, uno de cuyos miembros consta enterrado en la villa.

    Por tanto, confirmar o descartar documentalmente esas atribuciones a tan notables artistas resultaba del mayor interés para la historiografía de la arquitectura barroca sevillana. En estas páginas se presenta una declaración inédita que revela que los artífices del templo fueron los hijos de Pedro Romero «el viejo», iniciador de esa estirpe de alarifes sevillanos. El declarante es su propio nieto, Pedro, hijo de Diego Lázaro, lo cual avala la veracidad del testimonio.

    Partiendo de aquí, se contextualiza la de Tocina en el conjunto de la obra de los Romero, razonando la contribución de cada miembro, incluida la de Diego A. Díaz, criado desde muy joven con Diego Lázaro y sus hermanos. En cualquier caso, ya puede añadirse con certeza la iglesia de San Vicente Mártir de Tocina al catálogo de obras de la saga Romero

    So far, the truly shortage of news on the project and lift, stone on stone, of the parish of San Vicente Martir on Tocina, had taken us aback in our intend to enlight the authorship of this outstanding building, though many stylistic features had already allowed to credit it to Diego Antonio Diaz and/or the Romero dinasty, having been a Romero descendent buried in it. Therefore, finding out the elusive truth lying after this authorship had become a major business to Sevillian Baroque Historiography of Architecture. Through these pages, we disclose an unpublished testimony that provides evidence about this slippery authorship, resting the question on the sons of Pedro Romero “The Old”, first to a Sevillian master builders dinasty. This testimony has unintentionally been disclosed by Pedro Romero´s very grandson Diego, son to Diego Lazaro, thus supporting the veracity of such a statemen.

    Taking this new data in sight, Tocina may easily be settled as part of the Romero Dinasty Masterwork and furthermore, pictures us a young Diego A. Díaz being brought up along with Diego Lazaro and brothers. All the same, the parish of San Vicente Martir of Tocina is to be regarded as the brochure of the Romero dinasty from now on.
